And the countdown continues in my quest to watch and find something inspiring in every single one of Yahoo’s 100 Movies to See Before You Die.
This time I tackle two animated films. Those of you who know me are aware that animated movies are not my forte. In fact I fully plan on bowing out of these kinds of films when Alexa is old enough to go, letting her have Daddy time at the movies while Mommy watches something, er, I don’t know. Good.
But I have to eat my words with these two movies. I *gulp* enjoyed them. I have childhood memories of one while the other makes me want to relive my childhood.
I resisted watching this movie for more than 10 years. Can you believe it? Now I can say I’ve seen all three. The first one is classic, sure, the story of a bright and shiny new toy threatening the old toys in a child’s arsenal. But can I say the third one made me tear up? It’s about the toys now that their owner is all grown up and going to college. What will become of the toys? Who will love them? Now every time I see toys at the thrift store I imagine them to be abandoned and sad. I am inspired to get on the floor with Alexa, act a fool and play with her toys along with her, no matter how silly I feel.
There are a lot of lessons to be learned here. First of all, living with seven small men does not protect you from danger. Second of all, it never pays to be pretty yet stupid. Third of all, never EVER take an apple from a stranger (especially if that stranger is dressed up like a creepy old woman who is really an evil queen). Actually now that I think about it Snow White gets rewarded for being stupid and naive. Because she doesn’t end up dead for eating that apple. She ends up with a prince. OMG. My brain is going to implode with this injustice. I’m inspired to re-watch my favorite scene from the movie “Gremlins,” where no one is rewarded for stupidity and there are big consequences for unauthorized after-midnight foodstuffs.
