11 Best Music Blogs That Rock

11 Best Music Blogs That Rock /// Little Gold Pixel

Update: Five years ago I published a post about my top 10 music blogs. Time wasn’t kind to my list, though. Out of the original 10 blogs, all but a few have disappeared. The world of music blogs can be a tough cookie to crack. Sites are always folding; as soon as you start following one, the author goes on vacay and doesn’t update for six months. It never fails.

That’s why I recently weeded through my bookmarks to bring you the best 11 music blogs (in no particular order) .

RAVEN SINGS THE BLUES
Best stuff: Re-released Into the Wild, where the dust is blown off songs from obscure 1960s and 1970s albums.

I AM FUEL YOU ARE FRIENDS
Best stuff: Written from a woman’s perspective (rare in music blogs), the tone is engaging and makes me want to listen to songs I normally wouldn’t be interested in.

CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND
Best stuff: Longer thought pieces on things like Rufus Wainwright’s best cover songs, analysis of lyrics, and, of course, the weekly top 10 songs

LARGEHEARTED BOY
Best stuff: I love that this is a literature/music blog. Features like Book Notes (in which authors offer up playlists for their books) really make it a perfect marriage. Plus you can get your dose of daily downloads and linky lists here.

FLUXBLOG
Best stuff: Simple mp3 blog. Since 2002. Tried and true. Good stuff.

SAID THE GRAMOPHONE
Best stuff: I’ve been following this site for a decade, and it keeps getting better. Each post is composed of a short mood piece and image to get you in the right mind-set for the song at hand. Beautifully done.

AQUARIUM DRUNKARD
Best stuff: Eclectic and local to Los Angeles.

MUSIC FOR ANTS
Best stuff: Another music lover whose tastes are similar to my own, so of course I’m smitten. Also, there are seasonal playlists.

COVER ME
Best stuff: Cover songs are always fun, and the In the Spotlight feature focuses attention on several covers of one artist’s work.

MOKB
Best stuff: I’ve been following it since 2005, and there’s always been a good sampling of whatever I’m into at the time. It’s like they KNOW me, or something.

STEREOGUM
Best stuff: This is my definitive source for music news, and where I go to read lots of informed and always spicy comments.

Where do you go to find out about new music? Did I leave out your favorite music source?
