Yay! I’m sharing these free ocean wallpapers with you today as part of my freebie series. Always totally free — you never have to enter your email to download.
It’s spring, sunny and besides the ever-present Midwest wind, it feels like a beach day could break out at any moment. Except … there’s no ocean. No beach for hundreds of miles.
So I went on a hunt for pretty pictures to satisfy my need for Vitamin Sea, and I found lots of great aerial and abstract ocean photography on Unsplash.
Seriously, you could download an image from your favorite stock photo site, set it as wallpaper on your device and call it a day. There are so many beautiful options out there.
As always, I decided to up the ante a notch. What if I could turn these photographs into impressionist works of art that rendered like paintings on my desktop?
It’s easy to do if you have Photoshop. Simply open your image, go to Filters > Filter Gallery and play with your favorite artistic effect. My favorite is Palette Knife.
I especially love what happened when I turned a crowded beach into a painting — you still get the impression of people and activity, but the detail has been taken out and feels more like a dream.
I’ll share a video soon that shows exactly what I did to each image.
Until then, scroll down to see the five impressionist wallpapers I created and to get the link to download your favorites.
