Last year I set out to do 32 things before my 33rd birthday. I did all but nine. Here’s what fell through the cracks:
5. Make it back to Las Vegas.
7. Have family portraits taken.
10. Go to the ballet.
14. Find a new favorite band.
16. Get a turntable and listen to Dad’s record collection again.
17. Start saving to buy a house.
21. Shoot a new collection for Etsy.
22. Finish my second novel.
29. Go to the mountains.
But let’s not dwell on what didn’t get done. I did accomplish a lot, including:
1. Exhaust all avenues to find an agent for my novel.
2. Eat clean for one month. (Sorta, we became vegeterians.)
3. Breastfeed for at least four months, preferably six months. (Four months on the dot.)
4. Throw Alexa a wonderful party for her first birthday.
6. Go home for the holidays. (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)
8. Get my wisdom teeth taken out.
9. Redesign the blog. (I did this a few times.)
11. Take Alexa swimming for the first time.
12. Stay at the beach all day. Until the sun sets.
13. Organize our files. (This one wasn’t too exciting, but it got done.)
15. Dress up for Halloween.
18. Make chicken tikka masala at home.
19. Treat myself to a day of pampering without baby.
20. Host a summer barbecue. Or ten. (Just one, actually.)
23. Go on a picnic and fly a kite with my little family.
24. Participate in the Lung Cancer Walk for the fifth year.
25. Make my own baby food.
26. Take a daily photograph. (Check out my 365 Days series!)
27. Spend a Saturday morning in bed with baby and hubby.
28. Find a good place for gelato in L.A.
30. Pick out a special ornament for Alexa’s first Christmas.
31. Buy myself something I really, really want for my 33rd birthday. (Do a knife and two bracelets count? Sure.)
32. Finish the 100 Movies. Finally. (I’m in the home stretch this week!)
Stay tuned for my next birthday goal list. This one will be different.
