Advent calendars always seem like a great idea, right? So many ideas abound on Pinterest. Target has some cute calendars this year. All tempting, yes, but who am I kidding?
I’m a mom with two kids and a business to run. I can barely keep up with buying and wrapping presents, let alone coming up with clever things to do every day or even keeping candy in this house for longer than a week. Clearly I’m winning at life right now.
That’s why I prefer the idea of a Christmas bucket list instead.
I created one that fits my family, my expectations and, most importantly, my energy level (currently -1000).
This bucket list has room for 12 yuletide activities. Like the 12 days of Christmas. Ahh, clever girl!
Christmas Bucket List Ideas
Next, I started filling mine with things we enjoy doing each year.
A few ideas:
1. Cookie Making Day (which is exactly what it sounds like)
2. Hot chocolate & holiday drive (in which we burn our tongues on Starbucks and gawk at neighbors’ Christmas efforts that are far more enthusiastic than our own)
3. Annual viewing of Elf (because smiling is my favorite)
4. Annual viewing of Home Alone (because it’s fun to laugh at bad parenting)
5. Gingerbread house attempt (in which we all gorge on royal icing and cry when our structure is ultimately unsound)
For even more ideas, I turned to Hallmark’s creative blog for their Holiday Advent-ure.
They have 25, the overachievers they are. Here are the ones I’m interested in borrowing:
6. Make a wish list for the world
7. Light a candle and say a prayer
8. Pick 5 things to give away
9. Go caroling on FaceTime
10. Say kind things to 5 people
11. Go on a winter hike
12. Learn a carol in another language
