It’s the 1800s and you just moved to Hannibal, Missouri, and you don’t know a soul. But then you meet a boy who is hanging upside down from a tree in your front yard. His name is Tom Sawyer. He is ornery as they come, skipping school and hanging out with the no-good Huckleberry Finn, but you think he’s kind-of cute despite it all. You’re passing notes on your chalkboards at school, and he takes the fall for you when the teacher catches you. All those lashings must’ve hurt! Then you get “engaged” and kiss him only to find out he’s been “engaged” before. “Philanderer!” you call him. He wants to know what that means, but you don’t know and even if you did you wouldn’t tell him! You give him an angry face as only you can, because you’re a young Jodie Foster playing Becky Thatcher.
On a side note, the floral feminine look isn’t much my personal style, but I couldn’t help but do a post after catching 1973’s “Tom Sawyer” on TV over the weekend. This was a favorite childhood movie of mine, and watching it was like jumping into a time machine. Did you ever see it?
