Listen & Look is an occasional series focusing on music inspired fashion. I listen, then I create the look!
John Lennon is so cool he chews gum while recording a song.
I am having a rejuvenated love affair with the Let It Be album this summer, with its off-the-cuff riffs and jagged-around-the-edges sound. It’s one of those records that makes you want to hitchhike. Where are you going? To the toppermost of the poppermost!
One of my favorite songs is Two of Us, a clomping tune that dredges up visions of riding around in the back of a pickup truck on a sunny day, warm breeze on your face.
In my daydreams I’m a rebel. Hitchhiking. Riding in the back of a pickup. I feel like I should probably add: Don’t do these things at home, kids.
Anyway, I watched The Beatles working on Two of Us and got inspired by John’s jean jacket, Paul and Ringo’s black suits and George’s dark red get-up. The rest I cobbled together as the perfect western/boho/hitchhiker/hippie outfit. It’s one of those ensembles that would look just as at home in 1969 as in modern-day Southern California. In fact, I think this is the official Los Angeles uniform.
Gum-chewing John Lennon at :47. Enjoy!
