One of my favorite hobbies is to practice hand lettering on my iPad, especially bounce lettering.
What is bounce lettering (aka modern calligraphy)? It’s a style of lettering that doesn’t adhere to a strict baseline, and the letters descend longer or shorter in a rhythm. When it’s done right, it looks really fun and lively. But it doesn’t come intuitively.
First, you have to practice and un-teach yourself how to adhere to a baseline. This is no small feat, though, considering many of us have been hanging onto that baseline since we learned to print in kindergarten.
Two of my favorite bounce lettering teachers are Teela from Every Tuesday and Dawn from By Dawn Nicole. I highly recommend you check out their tutorials if you’re interested in learning bounce lettering.
If you’re looking for a shortcut, however, let me introduce you to bouncy fonts. The best hand letterers have transferred their bounce lettering into typography, and lucky us — we get to take advantage!
Here, I’ve rounded up 14 of my favorite bouncy fonts that will be sure to take your design project to the next level of cool.
