Has anyone ever been happier to turn a calendar to a new year?

When I opened up my file to update this free printable 2021 calendar, I was reminded of how I was ready to take on 2020 as MY YEAR. Guys, this year was supposed to be my magnus opus!

Clearly this was not to be. I did manage to simply survive a global pandemic so far, so I’ll count that as the win of the year.

I have a family who loves me. I have a roof over my head. I have food in my fridge. I have heat in my home. I have fairly decent wifi.

Back to the basics in a lot of ways, just like everyone else. I had to let go of a lot of things.

Money. Travel. Stability. My beloved California.

But most of all, I had to let go of expectations.

That’s how I’m moving into 2021. Zero expectations, not a single one.

It’s definitely not going to be “my year”!

The only thing I’m going to do when we hit 2021 is a happy dance that this nightmare of a year is finally over.

I guess that’s not the only thing. As always, I carry hope forward.

I’m pushing for that real systemic change in this country — one that eschews white supremacy, takes care of its people (with more than one miserable stimulus check in the middle of a global crisis where people are losing jobs, homes and health insurance), and in general starts to listen to smart people instead of stupid people.

Free Printable 2021 Calendar

This is the seventh year I’ve shared my minimal calendar with you, changing it up ever so slightly with the treatment of the “months.”

In 2015, I used oversized typography. In 2016, the months were hand-drawn in heavy marker. For 2017 I drew the months in bounce lettering. In 2018 I used freeform penmanship. For 2019, I drew blocky, beatnik-inspired letters in Procreate using my Adonit pen. For 2020, I used a Procreate dry marker brush to create low-midline lettering with a retro vibe with my Apple Pencil, editing them in Photoshop.

This year I went back to the beginning — oversized typography!
