My daughter is going to be Elsa for Halloween. It’ll be her … and about 5,999,746,234 other little girls. It’s fine, though. I wouldn’t have it any other way. She doesn’t care about originality. She’s 3. She cares about princesses. And Elsa is the ultimate princess for her.
I’m actually curious to see how many other Elsas will be marching in her school parade. Care to place a wager?
Anyway, Alexa is excited to wear her (store-bought) costume. It has been a carrot dangling in the closet for a month now. She has been batting at it and asking “is it Halloween today?”
Meanwhile, I worry that any day now she will change her mind and say she doesn’t want to be Elsa for Halloween. Kids are notoriously fickle like that.
I have found some very cute, stylish (mostly homemade) costumes in case of an emergency.
11 Stylish Halloween Costumes for Girls
1. Alice in Wonderland
The cardboard house might be ambitious at the last minute, but the dress, tights, headband and mary janes are all re-wearable and classic. Via Misha Lulu.
2. Anna Wintour
Seriously, cracking up. This is awesome. (And my daughter has just the personality to pull this off.) Via Oh Happy Day.
3. Raining Cats and Dogs
It honestly can’t get any easier than this. Affix stuffed animals to an umbrella. Rain boots/raincoat. Done, and clever to boot (see what I did there?). Via Real Simple.
4. The Diction-Fairy
The hardest part about this costume is going through with destroying some poor book. I think I could live with it, though. Via.
5. Izzy
For the first half of 2014, I was convinced that Alexa would want to be Izzy for Halloween. Last year she was a pirate, and she loved it. Arrrr matey.
6. Madeline
I love love love the Madeline books. Adorable, and simply classy. Via Andrea’s Notebook and Simple Simon and Co.
7. Morton Salt Girl
Almost as easy as Raining Cats & Dogs. Via Things I Like Right Now.
8. Pippi Longstocking
There’s nothing cuter than the mischievous little girl who thinks everything is possible. A run-down on how to make the costume here, and a tutorial for the hair here.
9. Snail
How sweet is this idea? Alexa and I look for snails on the way to school, so she would be enchanted with this costume. Via Oh Happy Day.
10. Sound of Music
The hills are alive, with the sound of adorableness … also via Oh Happy Day.
11. Stevie Nicks
Last but definitely not least. I mean, Stevie is the s$%^. And if my mom (who was Stevie obsessed) were here, she would freak out to see her granddaughter dressed up like this! Via Oh Happy Day.
