Welcome to this month’s Feminist Friday, where I round up some of the best thought-provoking links, and we can discuss what’s going on in the zeitgeist. Our motto here: Feminism is for everyone.
Feminist Focus
Have you seen the new Gillette ad that targets toxic masculinity and challenges men to rise up (repurposing its longstanding tagline into a hint: “The Best A Man Can Get”)?
In case you missed it:
The ad has garnered swift praise and backlash, the latter from the exact people who probably need to hear this message the most.
I cringe in general when a large corporation tries to jump on socially conscious bandwagons, but I really can’t find fault in Gillette’s ad. It’s both poignant and marketing genius.
Maybe next up Gillette can desist with its overpriced Venus line of products (and the pink tax that comes with it).
I would love to see Gillette reimagine its shaving products as the unisex tools they actually are.
