The 2020s so far … whew, am I right?
Another year around the sun after the dumpster fire year that was 2020, and I’m just now starting to feel somewhat alive again.
I usually aim to remain optimistic, but for a while there it was very difficult. Trying (and ultimately failing) to adjust to life in the Midwest. Navigating a pandemic and dicey economy with two children. Feeling grateful for work but fighting the fear of failure and overwhelm. Noticing time march by, and for the first time really seeing limitations in my body.
I know I haven’t been alone in what I’ve been through — thank god for hilarious memes to show us the common threads that tie us together — I just know it feels good to be coming out the other side!
In 2022, we took control of our surroundings and moved back to warm weather and the ocean. Frequent swimming is helping me feel stronger. The kids are thriving. Things are starting to feel less hellish. So, 2023, I very warily welcome you and implore you to be kind.
And for the love of god could someone bring the grocery prices down?! I can’t with the $6 eggs for much longer.

That’s how I’m moving into 2023.
Excited for new opportunities, cautious that everything could fall apart at any minute. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst?
Everyone seems to be sharing their wins and losses for the year, so I’ll briefly take score.
2022 LOSSES | 2022 WINS |
• The blog: This space was very neglected; something I hope to turn around in 2023 • Kansas City: Saying goodbye to friends and family is always hard, but I’m grateful for the time we had • Still miss California, probably always will • Didn’t work on as many personal creative projects, another goal for 2023 (one I can do with the kids!) • Didn’t finish my book challenge (sigh) | • Freelance work: I had the pleasure of working with many new clients this year, and on some very cool projects • Moving to Florida: This state isn’t perfect, but the weather is better and we are close to the coast • Looking forward to the future and buying a home soon • Prioritized my health by finding ways to relieve stress (swimming, listening to music) • Read 12/20 books, which is better than the past two years! |
Free Printable 2023 Calendar
This is the eighth year I’ve shared my free minimal calendar with you, changing it up ever so slightly with the treatment of the “months.”
In 2015, I used oversized typography. In 2016, the months were hand-drawn in heavy marker. For 2017 I drew the months in bounce lettering. In 2018 I used freeform penmanship. For 2019, I drew blocky, beatnik-inspired letters in Procreate using my Adonit pen. For 2020, I used a Procreate dry marker brush to create low-midline lettering with a retro vibe with my Apple Pencil, editing them in Photoshop. In 2021, I went back to oversized typography using Bugaki Elegant Serif.
This year I toiled for awhile in Procreate to create hand-lettered months inspired by retro serif Cocktail.
PDF includes each month in 8.5×11 format. For personal use only. Share with friends. Tag @littlegoldpixel on social media so I can see how you’re using your calendar!
Tools used: Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Montserrat Bold, hand lettering inspired by Cocktail
