I Hate These Things, But You Probably Love Them

Let’s talk today about the things/people we absolutely cannot stand, and yet everyone else seems to think they’re the bee’s knees. It could be anything or anyone. I want to hear your deepest, darkest annoyances.

I’ll start.

5 Things I Hate That You Probably Love

I Hate These Things, But You Probably Love Them • littlegoldpixel.com

1. Amy Poehler

Ugh. If I see her book on one more book club reading list or year-end best-of list, I will need surgery to unroll my eyes. It pains me that she does so many things with my comedienne girl crush Tina Fey because these things are all tainted by her patently unfunny delivery. She nearly ruined Mean Girls for me simply by being present. She’s almost funny, and that’s probably what bugs me the most about her. She makes me cringe. No, I have not seen Parks and Recreation. One guess why not.

2. Mayonnaise

People are always shocked when I say, “Hold the mayo!” It’s just not for me, so stop trying to put it on my hamburgers, people! Mayonnaise isn’t one of those friends with an anytime pass. He has to dress up real nice, mingle with some other, groovier flavors, and maybe I’ll let him into my food party. After he rings the doorbell and gives me a bottle of wine.

3. Facebook

I hate Facebook so much. Sooooo so much. I feel like I’m in an abusive relationship with Facebook, in which I get whipped repeatedly yet I can’t stop coming back for more. I’d like to interact with friends of the blog on my business page, but too bad none of you ever see my posts thanks to Facebook’s pay-for-play algorithm. When I check in on my personal feed, I simultaneously want to laugh and cry from all the inane updates. What happened to sanity? Everything that’s wrong with Facebook was summed up in this post.

… And yet …

I still check my news feed every day. Sigh.

4. Taylor Swift

I don’t get the appeal. I just don’t.

5. 24-Hour News Cycle

It started with CNN, but that was just TV and you could turn it off. But now the never-ending cycle of news is everywhere, and you can’t escape the constant onslaught of poorly reported, hey-we’re-first-to-report-it-even-though-it’s-wrong news. Any benefit in being in the know is negated by the culture of fear-mongering (think: Ebola) and overall decline in quality journalism. Not to mention it’s plain exhausting.

Now it’s your turn: What are some things everyone likes but you don’t? Please tell me I’m not alone on Amy Poehler!

P.S. The first time we talked about things we hate that everyone else likes.
