Now that maximalist decor is a thing right now (or, as I lovingly refer to it, Modern Glam), I’ve been delighted to see ginormous gallery walls full of abstract art taking over my Instagram feed.

Abstract art is one of my first and most passionate art loves, so I decided to round up some free abstract art options to help ease you into this world in case it’s an art form you aren’t as comfortable with.

The idea of decorating with abstract art can make people uncomfortable because they think you have to find deep meaning in each piece or have a story behind it.

In actuality, connecting with abstract art can be as deep or as shallow as you want it to be. It’s OK if you just like the pretty colors, for instance.

Free Abstract Art: My Tips & Tricks

Here are a few of my tips on finding free abstract art and getting comfortable decorating with it.

1. Search Stock Photo sites.

I found several of these pieces by going to sites like Unsplash and Pexels and searching for abstract art. These images are high quality, and will print well at smaller and sometimes even larger sizes.

Another good resource is finding free wallpapers on various blogs. The image quality is usually lower, so I like to use these as small filler pieces. Be sure to check that the image isn’t pixelated before you hang it on your wall.

2. Flip it around.

Abstract art can be turned on its side. It can go upside down. It can be cropped. Enjoy the freedom of displaying abstract art in a way that’s aesthetically please TO YOU.

3. Start with filler pieces.

If you are unsure how to incorporate abstract art into your gallery wall, start small and fill in gaps with abstract art in complementary colors. It’s really that easy!
