Have you noticed the groovy fonts trend going around the social media art scene right now?
It’s showing up everywhere from ads to quotes to individual artists’ feeds.
I follow a lot of illustrators and letterers, and it is clear that groovy/psychedelic/hippie typography is en vogue this year.
How can you tell when you come across a groovy font? Well, here are a few hints:
- Dramatic swashes and curlicues
- Lots of movement
- Tight letter spacing
- Bottom-heavy letterforms
- Round, bulging shapes
This kind of loose display lettering is a style that can feel very intimidating if you want to come up with it on your own, I know. I’ve been there, and I’m still trying.
What to do if you are too overwhelmed to give lettering a go but want to join the groovy fonts trend anyway?
Find a readymade font, of course!
