You know, when I sat down to create a free art printable for you this week, I could’ve sworn I already had an idea on tap.
I checked the notes app on my phone.
I checked my Pinterest boards. I looked through my email (and subsequently got distracted by things I need to respond to; sorry if I owe you an email).
I even retraced my thoughts.
Nada, zilch, zero.
Is this is a sign of age? Mom brain? Sleep deprivation (the vacation is over)? All of the above?
Yes, and short-circuiting from pure data overload.
It has been a hectic week. If I’m not careful, things get lost in the shuffle. My job as a magazine designer forces me to multitask and “multi-remember” at an alarming rate.
Countless projects fill my day. If I’m not careful, things get buried from one moment to the next. It’s a rare feat to finish a project without interruption. I’m always refocusing my attention on a different project in the middle of another one.
I relish this game, which at times can feel like a accelerated game of Tetris. But sometimes I have to stop and say, “Hold that thought.” Then I’ll get back to you.
But let’s not forget to put on our own oxygen mask before helping others, if you catch my drift.
Whether it’s a forced break, a notepad to jot down really great printable ideas (hint, hint), or a simple Time Out — we owe it to ourselves to keep our sanity in check.
I know all of this, but applying it in real life is a huge problem for me. Often I fail.
