Now that we’ve discussed what Modern Farmhouse decor looks like, and how to achieve that look, let’s get to the heart of the matter: What the heck should you put on your walls?
I got pretty detailed here, with six gallery wall examples, but keep in mind this is a starter kit. You may like some ideas and not others. Mix and match till you find your true style.
Let’s get started!
Modern Farmhouse Gallery Wall
First, I’ll briefly go over 8 key elements that drive a Modern Farmhouse gallery wall, and why.
Remember, this isn’t your typical kitschy Farmer John look with loads of farm animals and cutesy signs. We are using familiar themes, for sure, including farm animals and cutesy signs, but we’re putting a more modern, edgier spin on it.
1. Anything to do with “Home” or “Family”
Why this works: One of the major themes of modern farmhouse style is family. You want your space to be warm, cozy, inviting and a place for friends and family to gather and spend time together. Any rustic sign that says “Home Sweet Home” or “Gather” or “Love” or any variation thereof is a surefire hit.

2. Bounce Lettering Quotes
Why this works: The fluid movement of modern bounce lettering is a nice contrast to the rustic reclaimed wood and sturdy furniture in your space. It’s elegant but not as overtly feminine as traditional calligraphy. Light-hearted without being fragile. Inspirational phrases are popular, as are Bible verses. Keep it simple: Black words on white paper play best.
Search for: Etsy: scripture hand lettered print, modern farmhouse calligraphy
3. B&W Farm animal photography
Why this works: Keep the background simple and focus on the animal. Even better, find a unique angle or focus on the eyes or head. This simple move takes an art cliche and elevates it to fine art.
Search for: Etsy: peek-a-boo animals; Society6: b&w animal photo
4. French impressionist style paintings
Why this works: Think pastoral scenes, like Monet’s haystacks. Also, beautiful portraits and landscapes to sidle up against the crisp white and glossy black furnishings of modern farmhouse decor.
Search for: I love the art of Megan Williamson, Clare Elsaesser and Tali Yalonetzki.
5. Letter Boards
Why this works: Sure, they’re trendy for any and all decor styles right now. Look for a letterboard with a black background and white rustic wood frame to make this trend shine in your modern farmhouse. Check out Letter Revival Co. for a different take on letter boards.

6. Numbers and letters
Why this works: It’s an easy way to add a personal touch without being too obvious. Pick one that means something to you and go with it. Graphic b&w is great; you can find letters made out of faux boxwood if you’re keen.

7. Linocut or woodblock stamp prints
Why this works: If any decor style embraces the crafty, rustic nature of this print style, it’s modern farmhouse. The modern twist would be to look out for complex geometric prints or patterns in diamond shapes you might find on a homemade quilt.
Search for: Linocut print on Etsy, Amazon, Society6; woodblock print on Etsy
8. Reclaimed wood art
Why this works: Bring in the rustic wood tones of your existing farmhouse decor with interesting quilt-like patterns and shapes. Also look for patriotic art reimagined on reclaimed wood.

Next, let’s put these into practice, shall we?
