How to Create a Modern Glam Gallery Wall

Now that we’ve discussed what Modern Glam decor looks like, and how to achieve that look, let’s get to the heart of the matter: What the heck should you put on your walls?

I got pretty detailed here, with seven gallery wall examples, but keep in mind this is a starter kit. You may like some ideas and not others. Mix and match till you find your true style.

Modern Glam Gallery Wall

First, I’ll briefly go over 8 key elements that drive a Modern Glam gallery wall, and why.

1. Chinoiserie

Why this works: This is one of the defining characteristics of Hollywood Regency style, which is largely where the Modern Glam aesthetic gets its kicks. But what is it? Simply put: Europeans who were inspired by Chinese art and style created this lavish, over-the-top interpretation in the Rococo period. It has enjoyed waves of popularity. I’ve seen it trending a lot this year, so it’s definitely experiencing another resurgence and you should be able to find decor and artwork in this style now.

Search for: “Ginger jar” on Etsy, Amazon; “chinoiserie” on Etsy, Amazon, Minted;

2. Fashion references

Why this works: Think glam things. Anything from lipstick to Chanel bottles to Vogue covers to b&w fashion photography.

3. Eyes & Lips

Why this works: Modern glam decor draws considerably from the art deco period, which itself drew heavily on Egyptian themes, including the dramatic eye. Remember all the eyes in The Great Gatsby? On a more superficial front? Long eyelashes are glamourous. So are bright or dark lips, exuding that Old Hollywood glamorous vibe.

4. Gems

Why this works: Glitz! Glam!

5. Mirrors

Why this works: Bouncing light and adding dramatic flair. Try a simple gilded mirror, an art deco inspired mirror or a curvy or a round) lucite mirror.

6. City themes (especially L.A., New York, Paris)

Why this works: Wherever showbiz and fashion reign supreme, there is room for Modern Glam. Try this L.A. print or this print.

7. Strong wallpaper

Why this works: Geometric, marble or tropical wallpaper is the kind of statement that demands to be seen in a room. High drama is a must in Modern Glam decor. Like this marble one (+ pink marble one) or this art deco inspired feathered one, or this tropical one. You may or may not want to hang a gallery wall on top of your dramatic wallpaper. Some wallpapers are so intricate and scenic they stand on their own.
